AI Vulnerability Exposed as Hacker Installs OpenClaw on Users’ Computers via Cline Coding Tool

In an unsettling incident that highlights the vulnerabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) systems, a hacker successfully exploited a flaw in a popular open-source coding agent, Cline, leading to the widespread installation of the viral AI tool known as OpenClaw. Cline operates using Anthropic’s Claude, which can be inadvertently guided to execute unauthorized commands.

OpenClaw, an open-source AI agent that has gained significant traction for its capabilities, became the weapon of choice for the hacker. Fortunately, the installed agents did not activate upon installation; had they done so, the outcome could have been drastically more damaging.
