Volunteers Bring Easter Joy to Ohio Children in Need Through Gift Basket Initiative
COLUMBUS, Ohio — As Easter approaches, local volunteers are stepping up to bring smiles to children facing difficult circumstances. Cheryl Costello, a longtime advocate for kids in need, is leading an effort to distribute 75 specially prepared Easter baskets to children served by Franklin County Children Services.
For Costello, a member of the Daughters of Erin for 17 years, giving back is second nature. Her organization recently made a profound impact on a grieving family after a mother passed away just before Christmas.
“We rallied to provide gifts and make their holiday as special as possible,” Costello said. “That’s what drives us—bringing light during dark times.”
This month, volunteers gathered donations and assembled Easter baskets filled with toys, treats, and essentials. The initiative aligns with Franklin County Children Services’ annual theme, Powered by Hope, which emphasizes community support for at-risk youth.
The agency, which handles cases of abuse and neglect, will host a Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Breakfast on April 8 to highlight ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable children.
Costello and her team hope the small gestures—like a festive basket—can offer comfort. “A little joy can go a long way when kids are struggling,” she said.
The Daughters of Erin, a philanthropic group, regularly supports local charities, proving that dedicated volunteers can make a lasting difference.
