Wright State’s Raiderthon Raises $59,000 for Dayton Children’s Hospital in Inspiring 12-Hour Event
DAYTON, Ohio — Wright State University students recently came together for an unforgettable day of dancing, games, and heartfelt storytelling during the 13th annual Raiderthon. Held on March 28, the 12-hour event not only energized participants but also raised an impressive $59,000 for Dayton Children’s Hospital—marking the second-highest total in the fundraiser’s history.
Organized by Miracle Makers, a student-led philanthropic group, Raiderthon brought together around 100 participants who spent the day celebrating the resilience of “Miracle Kids”—children who have overcome serious illnesses with the help of Dayton Children’s. Six Miracle Kids attended the event, sharing their stories and inspiring attendees with their journeys.
“When the final fundraising total is revealed, it’s an emotional and celebratory moment,” said Alyssa Zizelman, a physiology and neuroscience major who serves as executive director of Miracle Makers. “Everyone comes together to see the impact of their hard work over the past year, and it’s truly unforgettable.”
The funds raised will support critical programs, life-saving treatments, state-of-the-art equipment, and financial assistance for families in need at Dayton Children’s Hospital. The hospital emphasizes reducing barriers for families facing financial hardships, ensuring that children receive the care they need regardless of their circumstances.
Raiderthon’s success is a testament to the dedication of the Wright State community. Participants spent months fundraising and planning for the event, which has become a cornerstone of the university’s philanthropic efforts. The event featured lively dances, interactive games, and heartfelt moments as students connected with Miracle Families.
“One of the most meaningful moments each year is hearing from Miracle Families and seeing the direct impact of our efforts,” Zizelman added. “It reminds us why we do this and how much of a difference we can make.”
Since its inception, Raiderthon has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Dayton Children’s, supporting countless families and advancing pediatric care in the region. This year’s total of $59,000 highlights the continued generosity and commitment of Wright State students, faculty, and supporters.
