Columbus Zoo Welcomes Three Adorable Penguin Chicks in February Baby Boom
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is celebrating the arrival of three fluffy new residents this month, as its penguin colony expands with two female chicks and one male.
The first two chicks hatched on February 15 and 22, followed by the third on February 27. Zoo officials confirmed all three are thriving, growing rapidly under the care of their attentive animal teams.
While names have yet to be chosen, staff are closely observing the chicks’ developing personalities before making their selections. The zoo has promised updates on social media as the little ones continue to grow.
“Spring is always an exciting time for new life at the zoo, and these penguin chicks are no exception,” the zoo shared in a cheerful Facebook post.
This marks the second year in a row that the zoo has welcomed penguin chicks in late winter. Last March, two other chicks joined the colony, continuing the facility’s successful breeding program.
Visitors eager to see the newest additions may need to wait a bit longer—young penguins typically stay behind the scenes until they’re strong enough to join the main exhibit. But for now, the zoo is inviting the public to follow their journey online.
Penguins are a fan favorite at the Columbus Zoo, known for their playful antics and tight-knit social groups. The new arrivals will eventually waddle their way into the hearts of guests, adding to the zoo’s vibrant wildlife community.
