Ohio to Build 64 New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations by 2027
Ohio is taking a significant step toward bolstering its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure with the announcement of 64 new charging stations across the state. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) revealed on Friday that these stations will be funded through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, with $51 million allocated for their development.
The move comes as Ohio accelerates its efforts to meet the growing demand for EV charging facilities. Construction is slated to begin in early 2025, with all stations expected to be operational by the end of 2027. Each location will feature at least four charging ports, each delivering 150 kW of power, ensuring faster charging times for drivers. Additionally, the stations will offer access to amenities such as restrooms and food options, enhancing the overall user experience.
“Ohio’s investment in EV infrastructure is a win for our economy and our communities,” said ODOT Director Pamela Boratyn. “Every dollar spent strengthens economic opportunities, from construction jobs to long-term operational roles. With our strong automotive and manufacturing base, these projects position Ohio as a leader in the EV transition and expand transportation options for residents.”
The announcement marks the latest phase of Ohio’s NEVI initiative, which has already seen 19 operational EV stations across the state, with 12 more slated for completion this year. By 2027, the state aims to have a robust network of charging facilities to support its growing EV population.
Currently, Ohio boasts 126,212 registered electric vehicles, and ODOT reports that EV adoption is steadily increasing. As of September 2025, electric vehicles accounted for 5% of all new car registrations in the state—a clear indicator of shifting consumer preferences toward sustainable transportation.
The expansion of Ohio’s charging infrastructure is also expected to address “range anxiety,” a common concern among potential EV buyers who worry about the availability of charging stations during long trips. By strategically placing these new stations across the state, ODOT aims to make EV ownership more convenient and accessible for Ohioans.
