Ghana Nears Readiness for 2024 African Athletics Championships, CAA Expresses Confidence
Accra, Ghana – The Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) has praised Ghana’s preparations for the upcoming 24th African Senior Athletics Championships, set to take place from May 12-17 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
A two-member CAA delegation, led by CEO Lamine Fati and Head of Television Production Melinda Lombard, conducted a thorough inspection of the venue, including running tracks, technical equipment, and administrative offices. The team also reviewed transportation logistics, anti-doping measures, and athlete accommodations ahead of the continental event.
High Praise from CAA Officials
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, Fati commended Ghana’s progress, stating:
“We are very satisfied with the facilities—both for the event and athlete accommodations. Ghana is about 96% ready, and we are confident in their ability to deliver a successful championship.”
He also highlighted fruitful discussions with the Ghana Anti-Doping Agency (GADA), ensuring a clean and fair competition.
Ghana’s Track Record Boosts Confidence
Fati recalled Ghana’s successful hosting of the African Games in recent years, reinforcing trust in the country’s organizational capabilities.
“Ghana has proven itself before. The experience with officials and staff has always been excellent, and we expect nothing less this time,” he added.
Local Organizers Optimistic
Bawah Fuseini, President of Ghana Athletics, thanked the CAA for their feedback and assured that any remaining adjustments would be addressed promptly.
“We appreciate the constructive input from the CAA and are committed to delivering a flawless event,” Fuseini said. He also acknowledged the support from the Ghanaian government and sports agencies in ensuring smooth preparations.
