Retired Sports Chief Amos Adamu Warns Against False Allegations Amid Boxing Federation Feud

Retired National Sports Commission (NSC) Director General, Dr. Amos Adamu, has issued a stern warning to parties involved in the ongoing dispute between the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) and the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C). Adamu cautioned against dragging his name into the controversy, threatening legal action if the allegations persist.

The former sports administrator, who retired from the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports over a decade ago, was responding to claims that he had criticized the NSC for fueling the conflict between the two boxing governing bodies. In a strongly worded statement, Adamu dismissed the allegations as baseless and malicious.

“This story is straight from the pit of hell. It’s a complete fabrication with no truth whatsoever,” Adamu declared. “Why would I, of all people, criticize or condemn my former workplace? The Sports Ministry, now the Sports Commission, is my primary constituency.”

Adamu emphasized his long-standing commitment to the sports sector, citing his decades of service and dedication. “Those who know my track record understand that I have never condemned an institution I served wholeheartedly. Why would I start now?” he questioned.

The retired administrator revealed that Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, a key figure in the boxing dispute, had visited him to discuss the issue. Adamu said he advised Ladipo to resolve the matter amicably with NSC officials. However, he expressed dismay that his neutral advice had been twisted into a narrative of condemnation.

“Dr. Ladipo came to my house to complain about the crisis, and I simply advised him to engage NSC officials constructively. How does that become a condemnation of my former workplace?” Adamu queried.

The controversial claims appear to be part of a broader feud between the NBF and NBB of C, two bodies vying for control over boxing governance in Nigeria. The conflict has sparked heated debates within the sports community, with critics accusing both parties of prioritizing personal interests over the development of Nigerian boxing.

Adamu’s reputation as a respected figure in sports administration adds weight to his rebuttal. During his tenure, he served in prominent roles, including positions at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA. His legacy in Nigerian sports remains influential, making the allegations particularly damaging.

The retired administrator’s threat of legal action underscores his determination to protect his reputation. “I will not sit back and watch my name dragged into matters I have no part in. Those spreading these lies will face the full wrath of the law,” he warned.

This latest development highlights the growing tensions within Nigeria’s sports governance structures. Analysts warn that such disputes could undermine efforts to revive the nation’s boxing scene, which has struggled in recent years despite producing notable talents.

As the controversy unfolds, stakeholders are calling for dialogue and transparency to resolve the impasse. Meanwhile, Adamu’s firm stance serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability and integrity in sports administration.

For now, the retired director general remains focused on setting the record straight and preserving his legacy in Nigerian sports. His message is clear: no one should manipulate his name to score points in an internal conflict.
