WOOSTER, Ohio — Funeral services have been set for Lt. Paul Mickolick, a dedicated firefighter with the Town and Country Fire District, who was struck and killed while assisting a motorist on Stratton Road last week.

The 43-year-old first responder died on April 18 after being hit by a passing vehicle. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is still investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Honoring a Fallen Hero

The fire district announced that calling hours will be held on Friday, April 26, at the Church of the Savior (480 Fry Road, Wooster). The public is invited to pay respects from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A special viewing for fellow firefighters and emergency personnel will take place at 4 p.m., with colleagues encouraged to arrive by 3:30 p.m.

The funeral service will follow on Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m. in the same church. A processional will then escort Lt. Mickolick to his final resting place at West Salem Cemetery.

Support for the Family

The fire department has asked the community to assist Mickolick’s grieving family through donations. Contributions can be:

  • Dropped off at 60 N. Lincoln St., West Salem
  • Mailed to P.O. Box 175, West Salem, OH 44287 (checks payable to Rachel Mickolick)
  • Donated online via a GoFundMe linked on the department’s Facebook page.

Lt. Mickolick’s death has sent shockwaves through the tight-knit Wooster community, where he was known for his bravery and commitment to service.

The Town and Country Fire District expressed deep sorrow in a social media statement, thanking the public for their outpouring of support.

As investigators work to determine the cause of the tragic accident, local residents and fellow first responders prepare to say their final goodbyes to a man who dedicated his life to helping others.
