Three-Day-Old Abducted Baby Rescued in Nasarawa State, Two Suspects Arrested
In a swift and successful operation, the Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued a three-day-old baby who was abducted from his home and arrested two suspects linked to the crime. The incident, which has left the local community in shock, unfolded in Ungwan Bako, Orange Market, Mararaba, within the Karu Local Government Area.
According to SP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Nasarawa State, the distressing abduction was reported by 19-year-old Aisha Basa, the baby’s mother. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, March 28, when two unidentified men allegedly broke into her home at Unguwan Bawa, Orange Market, threatened her, and took her newborn son to an unknown location.
Aisha, whose husband had traveled to Lagos five months earlier for business, was reportedly asleep with her infant when the intruders struck. The young mother’s frantic efforts to locate her child proved futile, prompting her to seek immediate police intervention.
Upon receiving the report, Shettima Jauro-Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police, ordered detectives from the Mararaba ‘A’ Division to visit the scene and initiated a full-scale investigation. Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives successfully arrested two suspects on April 3, 2026, at around 4:00 a.m.
The suspects, identified as Furera Abdulrahman, 35, from Rugan Juli, and Sadiya Abdullahi, 39, from Unguwan Bako, Orange Market, were found in possession of the abducted baby. The infant was promptly rescued and taken to the Medical Centre in Mararaba, where he was examined by a doctor and confirmed to be in good health.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the abduction and implicated an accomplice who remains at large. The rescued baby has since been reunited with his parents, bringing a sense of relief to the traumatized family.
SP Nansel emphasized that the case is still under investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for further inquiry. He reassured the public of the police command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property and urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
This incident highlights the vulnerability of young families in underserved communities and underscores the importance of swift police action in addressing such crimes. The successful rescue has been widely praised, but it also serves as a reminder of the need for continued efforts to enhance security in the region.
