Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center Shifts to Cashless Payments Starting May 15
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is modernizing its payment system, phasing out most cash and check transactions beginning May 15. The move aims to streamline operations, enhance security, and reduce health risks associated with physical currency.
Key Changes:
- Cash and checks will only be accepted at the Central Cashiering Office in Doan Hall (410 W. 10th Ave.), open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
- Preferred methods now include credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
- Reverse ATMs will convert cash into prepaid cards at select locations.
- Online, phone, and mail payments remain available for patient convenience.
Why the Shift?
Hospital officials cite safety, efficiency, and hygiene as primary reasons. “Reducing cash and checks minimizes physical contact, curbs germ spread, and speeds up transactions,” the center stated. The change aligns with a growing trend among hospitals and businesses favoring digital payments.
