Africa Unveils $10 Billion Initiative to Propel AI Growth and Job Creation
In a significant move to harness the power of artificial intelligence for economic transformation, the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have unveiled the ambitious AI 10 Billion Initiative. Nicholas Williams, ICT Operations Division Manager at the AfDB, expressed the bank’s dedication to positioning Africa at the forefront of the AI revolution. “As a leading multilateral development institution, the AfDB is leveraging its strengths to ensure Africa keeps pace in the AI era. The AI 10 Billion Initiative sets the stage for enhanced partnerships that will drive AI entrepreneurship and bolster data and infrastructure assets across the continent,” he stated.
Similarly, Jean-Luc Stalon, UNDP Resident Representative in Kenya, emphasized the organization’s vital role in fostering private sector-led AI collaborations. He highlighted the potential for these partnerships to create jobs and enhance living standards within communities.
The AI 10 Billion Initiative is anticipated to be a pivotal step in advancing Africa’s AI landscape, with projections estimating a boost of $1 trillion to the continent’s GDP by 2035.
