Keyamo Warns ADC: INEC Derecognition a “Wake-Up Call,” Not Political Attack
Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has urged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to view the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to derecognize its factions as a necessary warning rather than an act of sabotage.
The dispute stems from an ongoing legal battle over the party’s leadership, with factions led by former Senate President David Mark and another group clashing for control. INEC’s move has thrown the ADC’s participation in upcoming elections into uncertainty.
Legal, Not Political – Keyamo Insists
Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), dismissed claims that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or INEC orchestrated the crisis.
“Neither APC nor INEC forced ADC’s leaders into this mess,” he stated. “This is a legal issue, not a political one. The courts—not emotions—will decide.”
He criticized factions attempting to blame external forces, calling such arguments “mischievous” and “misguided.”
ADC Risks Missing Election Deadlines
With Nigeria’s electoral timetable tightening, Keyamo warned that the ADC’s internal feud could leave the party without candidates if unresolved.
“If the court case drags on, ADC may miss INEC’s nomination window,” he said. “No faction can safely proceed until the leadership dispute is settled.”
He advised the party to either:
- Seek an expedited court resolution
- Negotiate a political settlement
- Find an alternative platform
ADC Defiant, Plans Congress Despite INEC
Despite INEC’s stance, the ADC has vowed to proceed with its congresses. Keyamo responded with a thinly veiled jab:
“If they insist on ignoring INEC and the courts, so be it. Never interrupt your opponent when they’re making a mistake.”
Final Warning Before Electoral Disaster
Keyamo framed INEC’s derecognition as a last-minute wake-up call.
“ADC should thank INEC for this warning,” he said. “It gives them a chance to fix their crisis before it’s too late.”
As the legal battle continues, Nigeria’s political observers are watching closely—the ADC’s future may hinge on how quickly it resolves its leadership chaos.
