Late Drama as FC Cincinnati and San Diego FC Play to Thrilling 3-3 Draw

CINCINNATI — Soccer fans were treated to a suspense-filled match Saturday night as FC Cincinnati and San Diego FC battled to a dramatic 3-3 draw, with the final minutes delivering heart-stopping twists and turns.

The game’s climax came in stoppage time, when Tom Barlow of FC Cincinnati netted his second goal of the night just two minutes after Marcus Ingvartsen had seemingly secured a dramatic victory for San Diego. The late equalizer sent Cincinnati’s traveling supporters into raptures, capping off a fiercely contested match that showcased both teams’ resilience.

The action began early when FC Cincinnati took the lead in the 11th minute. Kenji Mboma Dem found the back of the net, assisted by Evander da Silva Ferreira, marking Dem’s second goal of the season. However, San Diego responded swiftly, leveling the score in the 32nd minute through Ingvartsen, who capitalized on assists from Kieran Sargeant and Onni Valakari.

The second half was no less thrilling. Barlow put Cincinnati back in front in the 50th minute, thanks to another assist from Evander, but San Diego’s Amahl Pellegrino struck back in the 66th minute, tying the game at 2-2.

As the clock ticked into stoppage time, the drama intensified. Seventeen-year-old Anisse Saidi, making only his second career appearance, delivered a stunning assist to Ingvartsen, who scored his second goal of the night to give San Diego a 3-2 lead. Saidi’s contribution was particularly poignant, as he had entered the game just moments earlier.

But Cincinnati refused to concede defeat. In the eighth minute of stoppage time, Barlow stepped up once again, finishing with assists from Ayoub Jabbari and Samuel Gidi to salvage a hard-fought point for his team.

The match also saw notable individual performances. Cincinnati’s goalkeeper, Roman Celentano, made two crucial saves, while San Diego’s 19-year-old rookie, Duran Ferree, recorded three saves in his 12th career start.

However, the game wasn’t without concerns for FC Cincinnati. Defender Miles Robinson, a key figure for the U.S. national team and a potential World Cup candidate, was subbed out at halftime as a precautionary measure after picking up an unspecified knock. Robinson had only recently returned from a leg injury that sidelined him for several weeks.

The result leaves both teams with identical records of 4 wins, 5 losses, and 5 draws this season. San Diego has been strong at home, boasting a 3-2-3 record, while Cincinnati continues to struggle on the road, with just 1 win in 8 away matches.

Looking ahead, FC Cincinnati will host Orlando City next Saturday, while San Diego FC welcomes the Vancouver Whitecaps to their home stadium. Both teams will be eager to build on the momentum from this thrilling encounter.

Saturday’s match was a testament to the unpredictability and excitement of soccer, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the next chapter in these teams’ seasons.
