Meijer Pledges $200,000 to Combat Hunger in Northeast Ohio Through 2026 Harvest for Hunger Campaign
CLEVELAND — Supermarket giant Meijer has announced a significant $200,000 donation to the 2026 Harvest for Hunger Campaign, a vital initiative aimed at tackling food insecurity across northeast Ohio. This contribution underscores the company’s long-standing commitment to supporting communities in need.
The annual spring campaign focuses on bolstering four regional food banks that serve 21 counties in Ohio. These include the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, Greater Cleveland Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, and Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio. Together, these organizations play a critical role in providing meals and groceries to individuals and families struggling with hunger.
Vik Srinivasan, Chief Administration Officer at Meijer, emphasized the company’s dedication to combating hunger. “For over 90 years, Meijer has been deeply committed to fighting hunger and supporting the communities we serve,” he said. “Our partnership with the Harvest for Hunger campaign ensures that families in northeast Ohio have access to nutritious meals, not just today but for years to come.”
The Harvest for Hunger Campaign has a proven track record of success. In 2025 alone, the initiative raised more than $11 million and collected thousands of pounds of food, providing an impressive 33 million meals to local families. Meijer’s latest donation marks its third consecutive year of support for the campaign, further solidifying its role as a key ally in the fight against hunger.
Meijer’s roots in Ohio run deep. The company first expanded outside its home state of Michigan to Ohio, where it now employs over 14,000 individuals. This donation not only reflects Meijer’s corporate philanthropy but also its commitment to the well-being of Ohio communities.
The funds raised through the campaign will directly benefit the four food banks and their partner agencies, enabling them to distribute meals and groceries to those in need. With rising food costs and economic challenges, initiatives like Harvest for Hunger are more critical than ever.
As northeast Ohio prepares for the 2026 campaign, Meijer’s contribution sets a hopeful tone for the future. “Every dollar and every pound of food makes a difference,” Srinivasan added. “We’re proud to stand alongside these food banks and the communities they serve.”
The Harvest for Hunger Campaign continues to be a beacon of hope for thousands of individuals and families facing food insecurity. With Meijer’s generous support, the initiative is poised to make an even greater impact in the years to come.
