Ohio Officials Urge Responsible St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations with Free Lyft Vouchers

As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, Ohio officials are reminding residents to celebrate responsibly. To encourage safe festivities, Ohio Liquor (OHLQ) is offering $15 Lyft vouchers to residents aged 21 and older through its Proof Positive Rideshare Program. The initiative aims to reduce impaired driving during one of the busiest weekends of the year, building on the success of similar efforts during Thanksgiving 2025.

What’s the Goal of the Proof Positive Rideshare Program?

The Proof Positive Rideshare Program is designed to promote safer celebrations by providing free transportation options. Jackie DeGenova, Superintendent of the Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of Liquor Control, emphasized the importance of planning ahead.

“Responsible consumption is at the heart of everything we do at OHLQ,” DeGenova said. “Planning ahead for transportation is one of the simplest ways people can look out for themselves and others during busy celebrations like St. Patrick’s Day.”

The program is part of a broader effort to ensure Ohioans enjoy the holiday responsibly while minimizing the risks associated with impaired driving.

How to Access the Lyft Vouchers

Ohio residents can claim their $15 Lyft vouchers starting Wednesday, March 11, 2026. The vouchers are redeemable from Friday, March 13, at 6 a.m. through Wednesday, March 18, at 6 a.m. Here’s how to access them:

  1. Visit OHLQ.com/rideshare.
  2. Enter the code OHLQ2026 in the Lyft app.

Vouchers will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Officials encourage residents to act quickly, as demand is expected to be high.

Building on Past Success

The Proof Positive Rideshare Program isn’t new. It saw significant success during Thanksgiving 2025, when more than 300 ride credits were claimed. Lorraine Terry, Vice President of JobsOhio Beverage System, highlighted the importance of the initiative.

“St. Patrick’s Day is about celebrating with friends and family, and we want Ohioans to enjoy the holiday responsibly by having a plan in place before they head out,” Terry said. “Offering rideshare vouchers is one way we can help encourage thoughtful decision-making and ensure everyone has safe, responsible fun.”

Why This Matters for Ohio Residents

St. Patrick’s Day is one of the most popular holidays for social gatherings, often accompanied by increased alcohol consumption. Unfortunately, this also leads to a spike in impaired driving incidents. By providing free rideshare vouchers, OHLQ is taking proactive steps to reduce these risks.

Residents are urged to take advantage of this program to ensure their celebrations don’t end in tragedy. Safe transportation options are not only convenient but also essential for protecting lives on the road.
