Dayton Expands Flyer Hours Ahead of Historic NATO Parliamentary Assembly

DAYTON, Ohio — In preparation for the NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s first U.S. meeting in two decades, the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (RTA) has announced extended weekend hours for its Flyer bus service. From May 24 to May 25, the Flyer will operate from 8 a.m. to midnight, providing residents and visitors with better access to downtown businesses and restaurants during the high-profile event.

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly, a key forum for international dialogue, is set to convene in Dayton from May 20 to May 26. This marks a significant moment for the city, which last hosted the assembly 20 years ago. The event is expected to draw hundreds of delegates, diplomats, and journalists, placing Dayton in the global spotlight.

To accommodate the influx of visitors and ensure smooth transportation, the Flyer’s route will undergo temporary changes. From May 20 to May 26, the bus will bypass its usual left turn onto Third Street, instead traveling through Wright Stop Plaza from Jefferson Street to Main Street. Passengers who typically disembark at the Arcade bus stop are advised to use the hub stop downtown as an alternative.

The RTA’s downtown transit center will remain operational throughout the event, though minor reroutes are expected around the security perimeter. Specific details about these adjustments will be released closer to the dates. The transit authority emphasized that these changes are designed to minimize disruptions while maintaining public safety.

“We’re thrilled to welcome NATO to Dayton and are committed to making transportation seamless for everyone,” said an RTA spokesperson. “By extending Flyer hours and adjusting routes, we aim to support local businesses and ensure attendees can explore our vibrant downtown area.”

Local officials and business owners are optimistic about the economic boost the event could bring. Downtown Dayton’s restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions are expected to see increased foot traffic as delegates explore the city between meetings.

For residents, the extended Flyer hours offer an opportunity to enjoy the buzz of the event while accessing essential services. Visitors are also encouraged to take advantage of the expanded service to experience Dayton’s hospitality and historic landmarks.

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly is a crucial platform for lawmakers from member countries to discuss global security, defense, and political cooperation. Dayton’s selection as the host city underscores its historical significance and commitment to fostering international dialogue.

As the city prepares, residents and visitors alike are urged to stay updated on transportation changes and event schedules. The RTA will continue to share updates via its website and social media channels to keep the public informed.

This week-long event represents a unique opportunity for Dayton to showcase its community spirit and economic potential on the world stage. With enhanced transportation services and a warm welcome, the city is poised to make a lasting impression on its international guests.
