Cleveland Guardians Boost Bullpen and Outfield with Key Returns from Injured List

The Cleveland Guardians received a significant boost to their roster on Monday, activating right-handed reliever Hunter Gaddis and outfielder George Valera from the injured list. The moves come just in time as the team prepares to kick off a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Gaddis, one of the Guardians’ top setup men, returns after spending the start of the season on the 15-day injured list due to right forearm stiffness. The 26-year-old pitcher made just one appearance in spring training on February 27 before being sidelined. Over the past two seasons, Gaddis has established himself as a reliable arm in the bullpen, posting an impressive 2.29 ERA across 151 appearances.

His return couldn’t come at a better time for Cleveland’s pitching staff, which is navigating a grueling stretch of 13 games in 13 days, including a doubleheader on April 5. Gaddis expressed his eagerness to rejoin the team, stating, “You want to be out here with the team and pitching. It’s about trusting the process, and when you’re ready, it’s time to go.”

Meanwhile, outfielder George Valera has been activated from the 10-day injured list after recovering from left calf soreness. The 25-year-old made his MLB debut on September 1, 2025, and showed flashes of promise, batting .220 with two home runs and five RBIs in 41 at-bats last season. Valera’s return adds depth to the Guardians’ offense, particularly with his ability to play both corner outfield positions.

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt welcomed the duo’s return, highlighting their potential impact. “It’s great to have Hunter back in the bullpen,” Vogt said. “And adding George back to the offense is huge. We love his quality at-bats, power potential, and versatility in the field.”

To make room for the returning players, the Guardians made corresponding roster moves. Infield prospect CJ Kayfus was optioned to Triple-A Columbus, while left-handed pitcher Kolby Allard was designated for assignment.

Gaddis’ presence in the bullpen is expected to provide immediate relief during a demanding stretch of the schedule, while Valera’s offensive skills and defensive flexibility could prove crucial as the Guardians look to build momentum early in the season.

As the team gears up to face the Cardinals, fans will be eager to see how these returning players contribute to Cleveland’s quest for success in the competitive AL Central division.
