Ohio Orchestra Brings Video Game Music to Life in Nostalgic Concert Experience

CLEVELAND, OH — For many, the familiar tunes of classic video games evoke powerful childhood memories. Now, a unique orchestra in Ohio is turning those digital soundtracks into live symphonic performances, blending nostalgia with high-energy entertainment.

The Video Game Symphony, co-founded by musicians Andrew Keller and Jaclyn Kurtz, is an ensemble dedicated entirely to performing iconic video game music—from the adventurous themes of The Legend of Zelda to the upbeat melodies of Super Mario Bros.

A Symphony for Gamers and Music Lovers Alike

Keller and Kurtz, both Kent State University alumni, launched the orchestra as a passion project. What started as an idea quickly gained traction, attracting volunteer musicians from diverse professions—doctors, engineers, teachers, and more—all united by their love for gaming and music.

“When you hear these themes, it’s more than just notes—it’s a flood of emotions and memories,” Keller said. “That’s the magic we want to share.”

Audiences are encouraged to dress as their favorite video game characters, adding a playful, cosplay-friendly atmosphere to the concerts. The performances appeal to all ages, from lifelong gamers to classical music enthusiasts discovering video game scores for the first time.

Bridging Generations Through Music

For older attendees unfamiliar with gaming culture, the orchestra offers a surprising gateway into symphonic music. “Some come in not knowing what to expect and leave completely amazed,” Keller noted.

Meanwhile, younger fans—some attending their first live orchestra performance—get a new appreciation for classical instrumentation. “We hope this sparks a lifelong love for orchestral music,” Kurtz said.

Upcoming Performance and Livestream Option

The Video Game Symphony will take the stage at Cleveland’s Maltz Performing Arts Center on April 18. Tickets are available for purchase online, and for those unable to attend in person, a livestream option ensures no one misses out.

Whether reliving childhood adventures or discovering gaming’s musical artistry, the concert promises an unforgettable experience—proving that video game music isn’t just background noise, but a powerful, emotional force.
