Cleveland Woman Launches Innovative Community Cat Tracker: The Merlin Project

A Cleveland-area woman has introduced a groundbreaking community-driven platform designed to help pet owners keep tabs on their feline friends. Dubbed The Merlin Project, this initiative is already making waves in neighborhoods across Lakewood, Cleveland, and Rocky River, Ohio, by providing a free, easy-to-use tool to track and protect local cats.

Ashley Warner, the founder of The Merlin Project, was inspired to create the platform after a neighborhood cat named Merlin went missing. Warner noticed a gap in resources for tracking outdoor cats, which often leads to confusion and concern among residents who encounter roaming felines.

“When someone sees an outdoor cat, they may assume it’s lost or abandoned and want to help,” Warner explained. “But without a system in place, it’s hard to know what to do or who to contact. My goal is to create a community where cats are recognized, families are respected, and neighbors have the tools they need to care for animals responsibly.”

Since its launch, The Merlin Project has gained rapid traction, boasting over 200 users and 270 registered cats. The platform allows residents to report lost cats, share updates, and collaborate with neighbors to ensure that every feline finds its way home.

The success of the project was evident just four days after its debut when it helped reunite Kathryn Metz with her missing cat. “It was really a lifesaver because he’s back,” Metz said, expressing her gratitude for the platform.

Warner emphasized that The Merlin Project is more than just a lost-and-found tool. It also promotes responsible cat care and fosters a sense of community among pet owners and animal lovers. By keeping neighbors informed and involved, the platform aims to reduce misunderstandings about outdoor cats and encourage a collaborative approach to their well-being.

Currently, the project serves residents of Lakewood, Cleveland, and Rocky River, but Warner hopes to expand its reach in the future. For now, the platform’s early success highlights the growing need for innovative solutions to address pet-related challenges in urban and suburban areas.
