Ohio Pig Farmers Rally to Combat Hunger with Generous Donation to Mid-Ohio Food Collective

COLUMBUS, Ohio — In a heartwarming commitment to fighting hunger, Ohio pig farmers have joined forces to support families in need across central Ohio. Through a significant donation to the Mid-Ohio Food Collective (MOFC), facilitated by the Ohio Pork Council, the initiative aims to provide high-quality pork to those struggling with food insecurity.

The Mid-Ohio Food Collective, which serves 20 counties, distributes over 193,000 meals daily to families facing hunger. The donation from the Ohio Pork Council will help bridge the gap in protein availability, a critical nutrient often in short supply at food banks.

Matt Habash, President and CEO of MOFC, expressed deep gratitude for the partnership. “Protein, especially high-quality animal protein, is one of the most requested and hardest-to-secure items for food banks,” Habash said. “Donations like this from the Ohio Pork Council play a vital role in ensuring our neighbors have access to nutritious food. This contribution will make a real difference for families and individuals across our community.”

The Ohio Pork Council emphasized its dedication to supporting local communities and ensuring families have reliable access to nutritious protein. Jarred Black, President-Elect of the Ohio Pork Council and a pork producer from Canal Winchester, highlighted the pride farmers take in their work.

“Providing high-quality protein is one of the most impactful ways we can help families facing hunger,” Black said. “As pig farmers, we’re committed to raising nutritious pork, and it’s fulfilling to see it reach those who need it most right here in our communities.”

The collaboration underscores the agricultural community’s role in addressing pressing social issues. By focusing on protein provision, the initiative addresses a critical nutritional need while fostering stronger ties between farmers and the communities they serve.

The Mid-Ohio Food Collective’s vast reach ensures that the donation will benefit thousands of individuals across 20 counties, reinforcing the importance of collective efforts in combating hunger. This partnership also highlights the ongoing challenges food banks face in sourcing protein-rich items, making such donations invaluable.

As food insecurity remains a pressing issue nationwide, initiatives like this serve as a reminder of the power of community-driven solutions. Ohio pig farmers’ generosity not only provides immediate relief but also strengthens the bond between agricultural producers and the people they feed.
