Party leaders present nomination forms to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in symbolic gesture of support.
Kano State stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have officially endorsed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as their sole governorship candidate for the upcoming elections. The endorsement was marked by the presentation of expression of interest and nomination forms during a high-profile meeting on Thursday.
Former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje handed the forms to Governor Yusuf, calling the move a decisive step toward securing his re-election. Ganduje, a key party leader, emphasized the APC’s unified backing for Yusuf, stating, “We have agreed that you are our sole candidate. As a former deputy governor, governor, and party chairman, I present these forms to affirm our commitment.”
Tinubu Also Receives Unanimous Backing
In addition to endorsing Yusuf, the party leaders unanimously adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the APC’s exclusive presidential candidate. The motion, moved by Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, received full support from attendees, reinforcing Tinubu’s stronghold in the region.
Kano APC Chairman Umar Haruna Doguwa revealed that the party had initially planned to purchase nomination forms for Tinubu as a show of solidarity. “We intended to buy the forms ourselves, but others had already taken the step,” Doguwa explained.
No Automatic Tickets for Other Aspirants
While Governor Yusuf and President Tinubu received direct endorsements, party officials clarified that other aspirants would not be granted automatic tickets. Instead, candidates for various positions will be determined through internal party processes, with consensus being the preferred method.
The event underscored the APC’s strategy to consolidate support behind key figures while maintaining competitive primaries for other roles. With Governor Yusuf now formally backed as the party’s flagbearer, the stage is set for a heated election season in Kano.
