Somaliland Condemns UAE Drone Attack, Calls It Threat to Regional Stability
Hargeisa, Somaliland — Somaliland has strongly denounced a recent drone attack near the UAE’s Barakah Nuclear Facility, labeling it a severe risk to regional peace and critical infrastructure.
In an official statement released Sunday, Somaliland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed full solidarity with the UAE government and its people. The government called the attack a “dangerous violation” that threatens both regional stability and Emirati sovereignty.
“The Republic of Somaliland views this attack as a direct challenge to international security and civilian safety,” the ministry stated. It warned that such assaults endanger vital infrastructure across the Middle East.
Standing with the UAE
Somaliland reaffirmed its support for efforts to protect the UAE’s security, emphasizing its rejection of terrorism and violence targeting civilian sites. “We stand firmly with the UAE during this critical time,” the statement added.
The Barakah Nuclear Facility, a key energy installation in Al Dhafra, has been a focal point in the UAE’s push for sustainable energy. The attack comes amid escalating tensions in the region, including threats to maritime routes and energy infrastructure.
Strengthening Gulf Ties
Somaliland and the UAE have deepened cooperation in trade, maritime security, and infrastructure. The UAE, through DP World, has been instrumental in developing Berbera Port, boosting Somaliland’s economic prospects.
Analysts suggest Somaliland’s swift condemnation reflects its growing diplomatic engagement in regional security matters. The self-declared republic, which regained independence in 1991, has maintained stability in the Horn of Africa while seeking international recognition and stronger Gulf partnerships.
