Columbus Zoo said the baby brush-tailed bettong is named Tajin. The brush-tailed bettongs, also known as rat kangaroos or woylies, are a marsupial native to southern Australia. Similar to other marsupials, these babies are not fully developed at birth and crawl into their mother’s puch where they nurse and grow for approximately 3.5 months.

Tajin was born on Nov. 14, 2025 to mother Fajita. The joey emerged at the end of February and is staying close to mom while exploring its new world. The Animal Care teams named Tajin to fit with the spicy family theme with its mother and its grandmother, named Salsa.

Breeze Airways Expands Reach with New Nonstop Routes from John Glenn International Airport

Columbus, OH – Breeze Airways, the up-and-coming low-cost carrier, has announced an exciting expansion of its service offerings from John Glenn International Airport. Beginning this spring, travelers will enjoy new nonstop flights to both Savannah, Georgia, and Tampa, Florida. Additionally, the airline is increasing its service to Portland, Maine, providing more options for both leisure and business travelers alike.

The fares for these new routes will start at an enticing $59 one way, making Breeze Airways a competitive option as leisure travel continues to rebound in the post-pandemic landscape. The introduction of these routes is anticipated to draw significant interest, not only from vacationers looking to escape to sunny destinations, but also from residents of Columbus seeking convenient access to popular locales for family and business engagements.

Breeze Airways, which launched operations in May 2021, is known for its focus on connecting underserved markets at reasonable prices. The latest announcement signals the carrier’s commitment to expanding its footprint across North America, catering to a burgeoning demand for affordable travel options.

“The community response to our existing routes has been incredibly positive,” said Breeze Airways founder and CEO David Neeleman. “Adding these new nonstop flights connects more underserved cities while adhering to our mission of making travel affordable and accessible.”

Savannah, a historical gem known for its charming streets and vibrant culture, is expected to attract many travelers from Columbus. Its appealing mix of history, relaxation, and scenic beauty makes it a prime destination for those looking to enjoy a weekend getaway or longer vacation. Tampa, on the other hand, is a gateway to a wealth of attractions, including beautiful beaches, thriving nightlife, and numerous family-friendly venues such as Busch Gardens and the Florida Aquarium. Both destinations allow travelers to venture into the rich cultural and recreational offerings of the Southeastern United States.

In addition to the new routes, Breeze’s increased frequency to Portland, Maine, comes at a pivotal time, as this picturesque destination has gained popularity among travelers interested in the great outdoors, culinary experiences, and vibrant art scenes. Known for its stunning coastal views and impressive food culture, Portland has seen an uptick in tourism, further necessitating more reliable access.

Local business leaders and officials welcomed the announcement, seeing it as an opportunity to boost both tourism and the economy in Central Ohio. “More airline options will enhance connectivity for our residents while simultaneously bringing new visitors to our region—this is a win-win for everyone,” said James C. M. Williams, Director of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority.

The introduction of Breeze Airways’ new routes underscores a broader trend within the airline industry, as carriers move to capitalize on travel resurgence amid increasing consumer confidence. Following the uncertainties brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, travel bookings have soared, and airlines have ramped up their operations accordingly. This shift reflects a growing optimism in economic recovery efforts, especially in the travel sector.

However, it is essential for airlines to navigate rising operational costs while maintaining competitive pricing. Fuel prices and staffing shortages remain challenges that could affect service continuity and pricing structures. Nonetheless, BreezAirways’ business model of offering low fares while simultaneously prioritizing customer satisfaction may serve as a counterbalance to these pressures.

Breeze Airways has carved out a niche by prioritizing convenience, low costs, and customer-friendly service. Its latest announcement not only opens up new travel possibilities but also enhances competition within the airline industry by providing more options for consumers. As airlines fine-tune their strategies for growth, the introduction of these routes signifies a significant step forward.

Looking to the future, this expansion could prompt other carriers to explore similar routes or promotional fares, reflecting the dynamic nature of the current travel market. Additionally, with continued investments in infrastructure and potential partnerships, airports like John Glenn International may see further enhancements in services that foster growth and boost local economies.

As travel trends continue to evolve, passengers can expect more innovations from Breeze Airways and similar carriers aiming to make air travel more accessible, affordable, and convenient. For the residents of Columbus and the surrounding region, the expansion to Savannah and Tampa, along with increased service to Portland, opens up a world of travel opportunities—just in time for a busy season of vacations and adventures ahead.
