Tragic Helicopter Crash Claims Life of MP Johana Ng’eno, Leaders Pay Tribute

Nairobi — In a poignant gathering, members of the Kenyan Parliament, including National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, came together at the home of the late Johana Ng’eno to express their condolences to his family. The emotional tribute reflected the profound loss felt across the nation following Ng’eno’s untimely passing in a tragic helicopter accident.

The representative for Emurua Dikirr, Ng’eno was a prominent figure in Kenyan politics and known for his dedication to his constituents and national leadership. His sudden death has left a deep void among colleagues and constituents alike.

Ng’eno was one of five individuals who perished in a helicopter crash in Nandi County on Saturday afternoon. The group was traveling when their aircraft encountered difficulties, leading to the fatal incident. Following the accident, the remains of the victims were transported to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, where officials reported that the condition of the bodies was severely compromised.

Philip Kirwa, the Chief Executive at MTRH, addressed residents on Saturday, providing an update about the situation and confirming that the hospital had received the bodies retrieved from the crash site in Mosop, located in Nandi Hills.

Amidst the grief, members of Parliament and local leaders urged the public to stand united with the affected families during this trying time. They emphasized the importance of refraining from politicizing the tragedy. Rindikiri Mugambi, Buuri MP and Vice Chair of the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning, and Public Works, reminded everyone of the need for restraint as the nation mourns.

“Kindly don’t politicize these deaths,” Mugambi stated. “It is not in African culture to speak much about things we do not understand. Let us give the bereaved families time to mourn their loved ones.”

Tinderet MP Julius Melly called for patience regarding the ongoing investigations into the accident and assured citizens that there would be opportunities to collectively mourn and honor Ng’eno’s legacy. He also expressed gratitude to the Government for ensuring the dignified transfer of the remains from the hospital to Lee Funeral Home.

In a similar vein, Narok County Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu reached out to residents and the wider Kenyan community, urging them to promote peace and remain calm during this turbulent time. “Let us be calm and condole with the grieving families. We should allow the investigation process to take its course,” he said.

Lawmakers, including Naomi Waqo, joined in offering their condolences and praising Ng’eno’s unwavering service to the nation and commitment to the people he represented.

In response to the tragedy, the Parliament of Kenya has established an Ad-hoc funeral planning Committee, appointed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula. The committee is in consultation with Ng’eno’s family to coordinate funeral arrangements, and further communication regarding the memorial services will be provided in due course.

As the nation grapples with this significant loss, leaders across political lines continue to express their solidarity with Ng’eno’s family, highlighting the need for unity and reflection during this time of mourning.

The sudden loss of Johana Ng’eno serves as a somber reminder of the fragility of life and the vital roles that leaders play in the lives of their constituents. As tributes continue to pour in, many are left to grapple with memories of a dedicated public servant who committed his life to the betterment of his community.
