Ghanaian Police Arrest Three Suspects in Mob Attack that Killed Liberian National

Monrovia, March 2, 2026 — The Accra Regional Police Command has detained three individuals connected to the tragic death of 26-year-old Austin Tengbeh, a Liberian citizen, following a violent altercation at an apartment complex in Lashibi, near Sakumono, on Friday, February 27.

The suspects, identified as Vincent Adzikah (38), Francis Amuzu (44), and William Addison (34), are currently being questioned by authorities. A fourth suspect, Enoch Mensah, remains at large, prompting police to intensify efforts to locate him.

In a statement released on March 2, the Ghana Police Service indicated that the arrested individuals are scheduled to appear in court on the same day.

Details of the Incident

Preliminary investigations reveal that Tengbeh had visited his brother when he was falsely accused by the caretaker of the apartment complex of theft. This accusation led to a mob forming around him, resulting in what witnesses described as a distressing episode of mob justice.

Responding to emergency calls, a police patrol team arrived swiftly, rescuing Tengbeh and transporting him to Sakumono Community Hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival, according to the police report. His body has since been moved to Lashibi Funeral Home for preservation and autopsy.

The Accra Regional Police Command has urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing that mob violence and unlawful actions erode the fabric of justice. They encouraged community members to report suspicious activities rather than resort to vigilantism.

Response from the Liberian Government

In light of the incident, the Government of Liberia is actively engaging with Ghanaian officials to uncover the circumstances surrounding Tengbeh’s demise.

Ms. Saywhar Nana Gbah, the Assistant Minister for Public Affairs, confirmed that the Liberian Embassy in Accra was immediately notified and has been in contact with relevant authorities, including the Sakumono District Police Crime Unit.

The statement detailed that Tengbeh, who resided in the Spintex area, was visiting a fellow compatriot in Lashibi at the time of the incident. The Liberian government has underscored its commitment to transparency and cooperation with Ghanaian law enforcement as investigations unfold.

Additionally, the Embassy is maintaining communication with the Liberian community in Ghana and is working to connect with Tengbeh’s family to offer necessary consular support. The government has extended its heartfelt condolences to the family and the larger community, describing the situation as a tragic event.

They have called for calm among Liberians in Ghana while reaffirming their trust in the justice system and the enduring friendship between Liberia and Ghana.

Family’s Plea for Justice

Amid the investigations, family members are echoing calls for justice. A relative lamented the gruesome nature of Tengbeh’s death, expressing a strong desire for accountability. “I want justice for my brother because he didn’t deserve the way he died,” she stated, highlighting the pain felt by her family and community.

Remembering her brother fondly, she described Tengbeh as a caring individual who played a fatherly role in her life despite being younger. “He was my everything, aside from my husband. He was peaceful,” she said, expressing the deep emotional toll this incident has taken on her and her family.

The relative disclosed that graphic videos circulating on social media documenting the assault have caused significant distress, prompting her to close her Facebook account to escape the trauma of reliving those moments.

Conclusion

The investigation into the circumstances of Austin Tengbeh’s death is ongoing, as police work to bring all responsible parties to justice. His family and the Liberian community are left grappling with grief and unanswered questions about how such a tragic event could unfold.
