Rwandan Business Leader François Twagirumukiza Elected Chairperson of Private Sector Federation

Kigali, Rwanda – François Twagirumukiza, a seasoned entrepreneur and shareholder in CHIC Ltd, has been elected as the new Chairperson of Rwanda’s Private Sector Federation (PSF). The election took place on Friday, March 12, following a revamped voting process designed to ensure inclusivity and transparency.

Twagirumukiza, who owns White Stone Apartments and Eastern Hope Ltd, a steel and metal products trading company, brings 28 years of business experience to the role. His journey began in 1992 as a teacher before transitioning into the entrepreneurial world a year and a half later. He holds a bachelor’s degree in African linguistics, underscoring his diverse expertise.

The PSF, a key organization representing Rwanda’s private sector, plays a crucial role in driving economic growth and fostering collaboration between businesses and the government. Twagirumukiza’s election marks a significant moment for the federation, as he succeeds Jeanne-Françoise Mubiligi and begins a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal.

In his new role, Twagirumukiza will work alongside newly elected Vice Chairpersons Jean-Claude Uwizeyemungu and Diane Kamanzi. Uwizeyemungu, owner of Mahwi Grain Millers, assumes the position of 1st Vice Chairperson, while Kamanzi, who runs a clothing factory in the Kigali Special Economic Zone, will serve as 2nd Vice Chairperson.

The PSF’s leadership extends beyond its top three positions, with representatives elected to lead five specialized clusters: Agriculture, Industry, Trade, Services, and a Special Cluster dedicated to women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

In the Trade Cluster, Faustin Niyibishobora was elected Chairperson, supported by Stafford Rubagumya and Sonia Umurungi as 1st and 2nd Vice Chairpersons, respectively. The Agriculture Cluster will be led by Christian Irakoze, with Jean-Claude Shirimpumu and Immaculée Kayitesi serving as Vice Chairpersons.

Josiane Usanase takes the helm of the Industry Cluster, assisted by Jules Murekezi and Nyabudala Martin. The Services Cluster will be chaired by Christian Ndagijimana, with Eric Rutayisire and Joan Mazimpaka as Vice Chairpersons.

Therese Sekamana heads the Special Cluster, focusing on women, youth, and persons with disabilities. Gloria Girabawe, Shimwayesu Kefa, and Papy Sibomana will oversee initiatives for women, youth, and people with disabilities, respectively.

Twagirumukiza’s election comes at a pivotal time for Rwanda’s private sector, as businesses navigate post-pandemic recovery and seek opportunities for innovation and growth. His leadership is expected to prioritize inclusivity, economic resilience, and stronger public-private partnerships.

“This is a moment of great responsibility,” Twagirumukiza said after his election. “I am committed to working tirelessly to ensure that the PSF continues to be a driving force for Rwanda’s economic development.”

The PSF’s leadership transition reflects Rwanda’s broader efforts to create a more dynamic and inclusive business environment. With Twagirumukiza at the helm, the federation is poised to play an even more significant role in shaping the nation’s economic future.
