Toledo Humane Society Seeks Loving Homes for Rescued Dogs After March 5 Operation
TOLEDO, Ohio — Nearly a month after 28 dogs were rescued from a Toledo home in dire conditions, the Toledo Humane Society (THS) has announced that some of the animals are now ready for adoption. The rescue operation, which took place on March 5, removed the dogs from what THS described as “deplorable conditions,” marking the beginning of a long road to recovery for the frightened animals.
The dogs, ranging from playful puppies to calmer adults, have been receiving medical care, vaccinations, and behavioral rehabilitation at the THS Rehabilitation Center. Despite their traumatic past, the organization says the dogs are now prepared to start a new chapter in loving homes.
“They’ve been through a lot, but they’re ready for their next chapter,” THS shared in a heartfelt Facebook post. Each dog has its own unique personality and challenges, requiring patient and understanding families willing to provide the care and support they need.
The rescue process was handled with extreme care to minimize stress on the already traumatized animals. THS staff opted to remove the tops of crates rather than forcibly take the dogs out, allowing them to leave at their own pace. Medical procedures were also conducted with minimal restraint, ensuring the dogs felt as safe and comfortable as possible.
“They’re all untrusting of people right now, but with time and patience, they can learn to trust again,” THS explained. The organization emphasized that every dog, regardless of age or temperament, deserves a secure and loving environment where they can heal and thrive.
Adoption appointments are now available at the THS Rehabilitation Center, though all visits must be scheduled in advance. Interested families can email behavior@toledohumane.org or call 419-891-9028 to arrange a meeting. THS encourages potential adopters to consider adopting older or quieter dogs, as they often wait longer for homes compared to younger, more energetic pups.
“We’re asking for families who are ready to give these dogs a second chance,” THS said. “Whether they’re still learning to trust or are already showing their playful side, each one has so much love to give.”
The March 5 rescue underscores the ongoing need for community support and awareness around animal welfare issues. THS continues to advocate for the humane treatment of animals and encourages residents to report cases of neglect or abuse.
For those unable to adopt, the organization welcomes donations and volunteers to help care for the dogs and other animals in their facility. Every contribution helps ensure these rescues receive the care and attention they deserve.
As the dogs await their forever homes, THS remains hopeful that each one will find a family willing to embrace their unique journey.
