President Ruto Launches KSh80 Billion Initiative to Revitalize Nairobi
Nairobi, Kenya — In a groundbreaking move to tackle urgent urban issues, President William Ruto has unveiled a KSh80 billion cooperation agreement aimed at transforming Nairobi’s infrastructure and improving the quality of life for its residents. During a visit to Dagoretti South and Dagoretti North constituencies, Ruto highlighted the partnership between the National Government and Nairobi City County as a crucial step toward addressing challenges such as inadequate water supply, poor sewage systems, and crumbling road networks.
“The agreement we have reached with the County Government of Nairobi is also aimed at transforming the city,” President Ruto stated, underscoring the importance of this initiative.
Expanding Healthcare Services
A key highlight of the President’s tour was his inspection of the Dagoretti Sub-County Level IV Hospital in Mutuini. The facility is currently undergoing an expansion to become a fully equipped 400-bed hospital. Ruto confirmed that it will be operational by next month, promising residents improved access to quality and affordable medical care.
This hospital expansion is part of Ruto’s vision for a healthier Nairobi, where every citizen has the opportunity to receive essential health services without financial strain.
Advancements in Education
At the PC Kinyanjui Technical Training Institute, Ruto inaugurated a new workshops block and reiterated the importance of education in shaping an equitable society. He stated, “Education remains the greatest equalizer,” emphasizing the critical role it plays in national development.
The government has taken tangible steps to improve educational infrastructure, including hiring more teachers and increasing funding for higher education. “Human capital development is the primary enabler of transformation in our country,” Ruto added, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to empowering Kenya’s youth through education.
In a further investment in education, KSh250 million has been allocated for the construction of hostels that will accommodate 580 students in the first phase. Additionally, the opening of a new 20-classroom block at Kawangware Comprehensive School in Dagoretti North aims to enhance the learning environment for students.
Boosting Local Commerce
The President also visited the Riruta Modern Market, where he expressed satisfaction with ongoing construction efforts. This facility is expected to be completed by May 2026 and will provide improved working conditions for local traders. Ruto’s commitment to revitalizing market spaces is part of a broader strategy to stimulate economic growth in Nairobi.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja echoed the significance of this partnership, noting that collaboration between the National and County governments will result in lasting improvements in urban service delivery. “This agreement will not only enhance living conditions but will also pave the way for sustainable development across our city,” he said.
Fostering Youth Opportunities
In addition to infrastructure upgrades, President Ruto stressed the government’s commitment to creating job opportunities for young people and promoting equitable development throughout the city. This objective aligns with the administration’s broader mission of uplifting livelihoods for vulnerable populations.
Accompanying the President during his tour were several Members of Parliament and Members of County Assembly, including John Kiarie (Dagoretti South), Beatrice Elachi (Dagoretti North), Felix Odiwuor Jalang’o (Lang’ata), and Karen Nyamu (Nominated). Together, they emphasized the importance of a united front in achieving the ambitious goals set out for Nairobi’s future.
Looking Ahead
As the KSh80 billion initiative takes shape, Nairobi residents are hopeful for a brighter, more equitable future. The combination of improved healthcare, enhanced educational facilities, and revitalized commerce could have a profound impact on the urban landscape and the lives of countless citizens.
With continued collaboration and investment, the President’s vision for a transformed Nairobi may soon become a reality, making the city a better place for all its inhabitants.
