FIFA President Gianni Infantino Celebrates 100 Days to World Cup 2026 Kickoff

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has delivered a powerful message emphasizing unity and excitement as the countdown to the 2026 World Cup begins. With just 100 days remaining before the tournament kicks off, Infantino highlighted the significance of this historic event, which will take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

In a recent video message, Infantino described the upcoming World Cup as “the greatest ever,” noting it will feature three host countries, 16 cities, and 48 participating teams. He remarked, “We will witness 104 matches in just over 39 days. This is history in the making.”

Infantino acknowledged the vast global interest surrounding the event. It was revealed that an estimated seven million fans are expected to fill stadiums, while billions more are anticipated to watch the matches from home. “Six billion viewers are expected to tune in worldwide,” he stated, emphasizing not only the extraordinary numbers but also the emotional significance of the tournament.

“The 2026 World Cup will not just be about numbers; it will be about people coming together. We will have debutants and reigning champions, but more importantly, we are creating a platform for the world to unite,” Infantino added. He stressed the essential role of football in fostering global connections during a time when such unity is needed more than ever.

As anticipation builds, interest from fans has been remarkable, with over 500 million ticket requests received for the limited availability of six to seven million tickets. “To our fans: don’t worry. We will open a final sales phase in April, ensuring more opportunities for you to participate,” he assured.

The demand for broadcast rights has also escalated, with Infantino remarking, “We’re witnessing unprecedented interest; the whole world will literally stand still to watch this spectacle.” He reiterated the importance of bringing people together during the World Cup, pointing out that even nations not competing will join in the festivities, rallying behind participating teams.

“No matter where you are in the world, everyone can partake in this magical moment of football. Fans will choose their teams to support and celebrate as one global community,” Infantino explained.

Looking ahead, Infantino noted that the last qualification spots for the tournament are set to be decided this month during European and intercontinental playoffs. “Six additional teams are yet to qualify, adding to the excitement as they, too, will celebrate being part of this historical event,” he commented.

These playoff matches will take place in various Mexican cities and across Europe, further igniting enthusiasm for the tournament. Infantino is optimistic that as soon as next month, the complete roster of 48 teams will be finalized, paving the way for heightened anticipation. “Once we have all the teams confirmed, we can truly begin to get excited about the World Cup,” he stated.

With a dazzling array of matches scheduled over 39 days and billions of viewers expected, the excitement is palpable. Infantino and FIFA are gearing up for what is expected to be a monumental celebration of football on a global stage.

As the countdown to this historic World Cup continues, it is clear that the 2026 tournament promises not only thrilling football but also a chance for fans around the world to come together in a spirit of unity and passion.
