Miss Universe 1992 Winner Michelle McLean Reunites Pageant Sisters in Namibia Adventure
More than 30 years after her historic Miss Universe win, Michelle McLean is fulfilling a lifelong dream by welcoming her fellow pageant contestants to her home country, Namibia. From March 14 to 23, 14 former contestants from the 1992 competition are joining McLean for an unforgettable journey across Namibia’s stunning landscapes, wildlife, and cultural landmarks.
“It’s been a long-held dream to share my country with the sisters I met during that incredible year,” McLean said. “Winning Miss Universe changed my life, and now I get to show them the beauty and heart of Namibia.”
The trip, meticulously planned in collaboration with Gondwana Collection Namibia, offers a curated safari experience that highlights the country’s most iconic destinations. The journey began with a game drive at Okapuka Ranch, where rhinos roam freely, followed by a visit to Swakopmund, where the desert dunes meet the Atlantic Ocean. The group will then explore Etosha National Park, known for its lions, elephants, and diverse wildlife, before concluding their adventure in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital.
But this reunion is more than just a safari. McLean is using the trip to showcase Namibia’s conservation efforts and the work of her Michelle McLean Children Foundation. The foundation runs initiatives like a primary school in Windhoek, Promiseland at Walvis Bay, and the MealForTwo Programme by the Gondwana Care Trust.
“This isn’t just a trip—it’s an opportunity to share Namibia’s culture, its commitment to conservation, and the impact of the work we’ve done here,” McLean explained. “My sisters will see firsthand the difference these projects are making in people’s lives.”
The reunion also underscores the enduring bond between McLean and her fellow contestants. “This sisterhood has lasted over three decades,” she said. “We’ve stayed connected, and now I get to share this part of my life with them. It’s incredibly meaningful.”
McLean hopes the trip will inspire others to visit Namibia. “When people see women from all over the world choosing Namibia for their safari, it sends a powerful message—that Namibia is safe, welcoming, and perfect for travelers,” she noted.
For first-time visitors, McLean recommends sleeping under the stars at the Namib Dune Star Camp. “The sky is endless, the silence profound—it’s an experience you’ll never forget,” she said. When asked to describe Namibia in three words, she called it “soul-fulfilling, wondrous, unforgettable.”
By the time the group departs Windhoek, McLean hopes her friends will leave with more than just memories of wildlife and sunsets. She wants them to carry a deep appreciation for Namibia’s spirit, beauty, and warmth—and, of course, a story to share with the world.
