Franklin County Boosts LGBTQ+ Initiatives with $427,000 Grant to Stonewall Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Franklin County has allocated over $427,000 in funding to Stonewall Columbus, a local LGBTQ+ advocacy organization, to support its Pride celebrations and other community programs. The announcement, made last week, highlights the county’s ongoing commitment to fostering inclusivity and expanding resources for the LGBTQ+ community.

Of the total $427,562.94 in funding, $100,000 has been earmarked specifically for Pride programming. The theme for the 2026 Pride festival, “Until We’re All Free,” underscores the organization’s mission to advocate for equality and justice. The event will feature a Pride festival and resource fair on June 19, followed by the Pride march on June 20.

This year’s investment mirrors the county’s contribution in 2025, maintaining its strong support for Pride initiatives. However, the funding also includes a significant increase for general programs, enabling Stonewall Columbus to expand its services. A notable addition is the launch of a workforce development initiative aimed at helping LGBTQ+ individuals secure stable employment and economic independence.

“This investment from Franklin County reflects both consistency and progress,” said Densil Porteous, executive director of Stonewall Columbus. “We are grateful for the County’s continued support of Pride, while also recognizing the importance of expanding resources that address the evolving needs of our community—particularly around economic empowerment and workforce access.”

The new workforce development program is designed to equip LGBTQ+ community members with essential skills, connect them with job opportunities, and create pathways toward long-term financial stability. This initiative comes at a critical time, as many LGBTQ+ individuals continue to face barriers in the workplace, including discrimination and limited access to resources.

Stonewall Columbus has been a cornerstone of LGBTQ+ advocacy in central Ohio since its founding in 1981. The organization hosts Pride events annually, drawing thousands of participants and allies to celebrate diversity and raise awareness about LGBTQ+ issues. The funding from Franklin County ensures that these events remain vibrant and impactful, while also allowing Stonewall Columbus to address pressing community needs beyond Pride.

The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from local leaders and community members. Many see the investment as a tangible step toward creating a more inclusive and equitable society.

“This funding is more than just financial support—it’s a statement of values,” said one community advocate. “It shows that Franklin County is committed to uplifting marginalized voices and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”

The Pride festival and march are anticipated to be among the largest in the region, offering a platform for celebration, education, and advocacy. Attendees can expect a range of activities, from live performances and vendor booths to workshops and networking opportunities.

As Stonewall Columbus prepares for another impactful year, the organization remains steadfast in its mission to create a world where LGBTQ+ individuals can live authentically and free from discrimination. With Franklin County’s support, the future looks brighter for Ohio’s LGBTQ+ community.
