Delta Ijaw Leaders Endorse Tinubu and Oborevwori for 2027 Elections

In a significant political gathering, Ijaw leaders in Delta State have thrown their weight behind President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, endorsing them for the 2027 presidential and gubernatorial elections. The endorsement took place on Wednesday during a grand reception held in Bomadi, the headquarters of Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State.

The event, organized by the Delta Ijaw Political Leaders, saw thousands of Ijaw people and prominent leaders unite in support of the duo. The motion to endorse Tinubu and Oborevwori for a second term was initiated by Hon. Julius Pondi, a member of the House of Representatives, and seconded by Hon. Kenneth Oboro, a state legislator. The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, presided over the voice vote, which resulted in overwhelming approval.

Governor Oborevwori, visibly moved by the endorsement, expressed gratitude for the massive support from the Ijaw community. He described the event as a “homecoming,” stating, “Today, I feel like an Ijaw man.” The governor also pledged to reciprocate the love shown by the Ijaw people through political appointments and continued development projects.

Highlighting his administration’s commitment to Ijaw land, Oborevwori revealed that over N400 billion has been invested in developmental initiatives across Ijaw communities. His efforts have not gone unnoticed, as traditional rulers from the Delta Ijaw Traditional Rulers Forum honored him with the title “Izonebimiewei,” meaning “the man who does good for Ijaw people.”

Among the traditional leaders present were HRM Joseph Timiyan, Chairman of the Delta Ijaw Traditional Rulers Council, and HRM Pere Kalanama VIII, the Pere of Akugbene-Mein Kingdom. The gathering also included top political figures such as Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, who commended Oborevwori for his deliberate efforts to uplift Ijaw communities.

Dr. Dennis Otuaro, Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, and Prof. Benjamin Okaba, President of the Ijaw National Congress, were among the dignitaries who lauded Oborevwori’s achievements. They emphasized the importance of unity and continued collaboration between the Ijaw people and the Delta State government.

Governor Oborevwori reflected on the pivotal role the Ijaw community played in his political journey, stating, “God used the Ijaw people and other ethnic nationalities to bring me to office. I cannot forget how the Ijaw nation stood by me during my period of travail. It gave me strength.”

The endorsement marks a significant milestone in the political landscape of Delta State, signaling a strong alliance between the Ijaw leaders and the current administration. As preparations for the 2027 elections begin, this show of support positions Tinubu and Oborevwori as formidable candidates backed by a unified and influential constituency.
