Ohio Braces for Severe Weather as Summer-Like Warmth Fades

Storm System Moves InWeekend Weather WhiplashWarmer Days Ahead

Columbus, OH — Ohioans are in for a dramatic weather shift as a strong storm system sweeps across the state, bringing showers, thunderstorms, and plummeting temperatures. The abrupt change marks the end of an unseasonably warm stretch, with residents advised to stay weather-aware amid potential severe conditions.

Storm System Moves In

Showers began rolling into northwest Ohio early Friday morning, spreading eastward throughout the day. Temperatures, which started warm, are expected to drop sharply into the 50s by afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued a Level 1 and Level 2 severe weather risk for parts of the state, with damaging straight-line winds as the primary threat. While hail and an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out, forecasters say the timing of the storms may limit their intensity.

Weekend Weather Whiplash

By Sunday, Ohio will feel a stark difference—temperatures will plunge, with morning lows in the 30s and 40s. A mix of sun and clouds is expected early, but showers may return by afternoon. Some northeastern areas could even see snowflakes, a sharp contrast to recent summer-like warmth.

Sunday night into Monday will bring even colder air, with lows dipping into the 20s and 30s. Gardeners are urged to protect sensitive plants from potential frost or freeze conditions.

Warmer Days Ahead

After Monday, a warming trend is forecast, offering relief from the chilly snap. But for now, residents should prepare for rapidly changing conditions—from thunderstorms to near-freezing temperatures in just 48 hours.

Stay tuned for updates as the system progresses.
