Sudanese Military Claims Major Gains Against RSF in Darfur, Kordofan Amid Escalating Violence

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) say they have dealt significant blows to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in a series of targeted strikes across Darfur, Kordofan, and the Blue Nile region over the past three days.

In a statement released yesterday, SAF spokesperson Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah reported that military intelligence tracked the movement of 10 RSF tanks and multiple armored vehicles in West Kordofan, allegedly preparing for an eastward offensive. SAF forces responded with precision strikes, destroying the armored convoy and inflicting heavy losses on RSF fighters.

Key Battles Across Sudan

  • West Kordofan: SAF claims to have destroyed 10 tanks, six armored vehicles, and 18 combat vehicles in intense clashes that lasted through Tuesday night.
  • North Kordofan: Seven RSF combat vehicles were reportedly eliminated in targeted operations.
  • South Darfur: SAF airstrikes hit RSF drone platforms, weapons depots, and fuel supplies near Nyala, disrupting their operational capabilities. Residents reported multiple explosions across the city.
  • Central Darfur: SAF says it conducted high-precision strikes, destroying six RSF combat vehicles. However, a drone attack on Um Dukhun killed at least 17 civilians, drawing condemnation from local authorities.

Civilian Toll Worsens

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned of escalating civilian casualties, particularly in Darfur. A separate drone strike in Umm Dukhun, southwest of Zalingei, killed more than 10 civilians and injured many others.

“The situation is deteriorating rapidly,” an OCHA spokesperson said. “Civilians are bearing the brunt of this conflict, with no safe zones left.”

Regional Fallout

The fighting has intensified since the collapse of ceasefire talks earlier this year, with both sides vying for control of key territories. Analysts warn that the RSF’s losses in heavy weaponry could force a tactical retreat, but the group retains strongholds in urban areas.

Meanwhile, humanitarian agencies struggle to deliver aid as roads remain blocked and airstrikes threaten relief efforts.

What’s Next?
With no diplomatic breakthrough in sight, experts fear prolonged conflict could further destabilize the region, triggering mass displacement and worsening famine conditions.
