Katsina Police Launch Manhunt After Bandit Attack Leaves 11 Dead
Authorities vow justice as security forces intensify operations in affected communities.
Katsina, Nigeria – Katsina State Police Commissioner Ali Umar-Fage has ordered a full-scale manhunt for bandits responsible for a deadly reprisal attack in Kankia Local Government Area. The assault, which occurred on Sunday, claimed 11 lives in Jeka da Kolo and Kwalgoro villages.
Escalating Violence
The attack follows recent security successes in the region, including the foiling of a cattle rustling operation on April 29. Police recovered 205 stolen animals—91 cows and 114 sheep—in Gadar, Yan Tulu, and Kartaka villages.
Despite these gains, bandits regrouped and launched another assault on Matinjin village on Saturday. Security forces repelled the attackers, leaving several injured and seizing eight motorcycles linked to their operations.
Brutal Reprisal
Hours later, the assailants struck again, targeting civilians in a midday raid. “The attack was cowardly and barbaric,” Umar-Fage said in a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu.
Tactical teams were deployed to the area, but the bandits escaped before reinforcements arrived. The commissioner expressed condolences to grieving families and assured residents that perpetrators would face justice.
Security Crackdown
Additional forces have been mobilized to affected communities, with bush combing operations and coordinated patrols underway. “We will not relent until peace and normalcy are fully restored,” Umar-Fage vowed.
Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. “Credible intelligence from the public is crucial in tracking these criminals,” the commissioner emphasized.
Ongoing Threats
Bandit attacks have plagued northern Nigeria for years, with rural communities bearing the brunt of kidnappings, livestock theft, and violence. Security forces continue to face challenges in dismantling well-armed groups operating across state borders.
The Katsina police command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, promising updates as investigations progress.
