Nairobi Lawyer Files Urgent Petition to Block Review of Uhuru Kenyatta’s Retirement Benefits
A Nairobi-based lawyer has taken legal action to halt a parliamentary process that could review and potentially alter the retirement benefits of former President Uhuru Kenyatta. The case, filed by advocate Shadrack Wambui under Sheria Mtaani, centers on a motion linked to Senator Kiprotich Cherargei, which seeks to audit and modify the benefits due to Kenya’s retired head of state.
In a certificate of urgency submitted to the court, Wambui argues that the proposed review is unconstitutional and poses a significant threat to the vested rights protected under Kenya’s Constitution. The petition names the Senate of Kenya, the National Assembly, and the Office of the Attorney General as respondents.
