Community Mourns Fallen Firefighter Lt. Paul Mickolick After Tragic Accident
WOOSTER, Ohio — The Town and Country Fire District is preparing to honor one of their own after Lt. Paul Mickolick, 43, tragically lost his life while assisting a driver on the side of Stratton Road in Wayne County. Mickolick was struck by a passing vehicle on April 18, leaving the tight-knit community in shock and grief. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating the incident.
Mickolick, a dedicated firefighter, was known for his commitment to serving others. His sudden death has left colleagues, friends, and family heartbroken. In a heartfelt Facebook post, the Town and Country Fire District announced plans for memorial services to celebrate Mickolick’s life and legacy.
Calling hours will be held on April 26 at the Church of the Savior, located at 480 Fry Road in Wooster. The public is invited to pay their respects from 1 to 4 p.m. and again from 5 to 8 p.m. Fire service members wishing to honor Mickolick are encouraged to arrive at 3:30 p.m., with a special viewing scheduled for 4 p.m.
A funeral service will take place at the same church at 2 p.m. on April 27, followed by a processional to West Salem Cemetery, where Mickolick will be laid to rest. The community is expected to come out in full force to show their support and gratitude for his years of service.
In the wake of this devastating loss, the fire district has organized ways for the public to assist Mickolick’s family during this difficult time. Donations can be dropped off at 60 N. Lincoln St. or mailed to P.O. Box 175, West Salem, OH 44287, made payable to Rachel Mickolick. Additionally, a GoFundMe page has been set up and is accessible through the department’s Facebook page.
