Guardians Unleash Record Power with Six Homers in Dominant Win Over Reds
CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Guardians unleashed a historic offensive explosion on Sunday, smashing a season-high six home runs in a commanding 10-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Key contributions came from Kyle Manzardo, who homered twice, and rookies Chase DeLauter and Angel Martinez, along with veteran José Ramírez, who each added two-run shots to power the Guardians to their most impressive win of the season.
The Guardians’ bats came alive on one of the warmest days of the year at Progressive Field. Manzardo got things rolling with a two-run homer in the third inning, followed by a solo blast in the fifth. Brayan Rocchio also joined the home run parade, while DeLauter and Martínez delivered clutch hits. Ramírez capped off the scoring with his first homer in over a month, a two-run shot in the eighth inning.
This marked the first time Cleveland has hit six home runs at home since April 30, 2013, and only the third time this season any MLB team has achieved the feat, joining the Boston Red Sox and Washington Nationals.
Guardians starter Gavin Williams (6-3) delivered a solid performance on the mound, striking out seven over six innings while allowing just three runs. Williams’ outing was backed by an offensive onslaught that kept the Reds on their heels throughout the game.
For Cincinnati, it was another tough day on the road. Elly De La Cruz provided a brief highlight with his 11th home run of the season, but the Reds struggled to keep pace with Cleveland’s relentless attack. The loss marked Cincinnati’s ninth defeat in their last ten road games.
DeLauter got the Guardians off to a fast start in the first inning with a two-run homer off Reds starter Brady Singer (2-4). Manzardo’s first homer extended the lead to 4-1 in the third, and his second blast in the fifth made it 6-2. Martínez’s team-leading ninth homer of the season in the seventh inning put Cleveland up 8-2, and Ramírez sealed the deal with his late-game contribution.
The Guardians also saw standout performances from rookie Travis Bazzana, who notched three hits, and Ramírez, whose eighth-inning homer ended a prolonged drought.
Looking ahead, the Reds will aim to regroup as they open a three-game series in Philadelphia on Monday, with left-hander Nick Lodolo (0-1, 8.68 ERA) taking the mound against Phillies’ Andrew Painter (1-4, 6.21). Meanwhile, the Guardians will head to Detroit for a four-game series, starting Monday with right-hander Slade Cecconi (2-4, 5.60 ERA) facing Tigers’ Framber Valdez (2-2, 4.32).
Sunday’s win showcased the Guardians’ potential to blend power hitting with strong pitching, a formula they’ll look to replicate as they continue their push in the AL Central.
